The Residences at St. Regis Bahia Beach – Puerto Rico

The Residences at St. Regis Bahia Beach is a collection of luxury condominiums and homes on Bahia Beach, Puerto Rico. The resort’s drive is bordered by palm trees and set in a former plantation, but it’s just 25 miles to the bustling metropolis of San Juan. The 483-acre oceanfront property, a former coconut plantation, has set aside more than 65 percent as green space, with lakes, nature trails and an Audubon-certified bird sanctuary. Nestled amid the lush vegetation are low-rise residential buildings done in a tropical plantation style.

Features and Amenities

The most affordable are Las Verandas, which border the Robert Trent Jones Jr.-designed golf course and offer lake views and two community pools; 59 of the 90 one- to three-bedroom units have sold, and several more are in contract. Currently on the market in Las Verandas: a 2,300-square-foot three-bedroom, three-bathroom unit for $929,000.

Closer to the ocean are the Las Ventanas villas, with one-bedroom (plus den) units starting at $920,200 and three- and four-bedroom penthouses priced at $2.25 million. Most impressive are Las Estancias, 26 estate homes measuring 6,000 to 10,000 square feet that start at $3.5 million. The homes feature sprawling verandas from which you can take in views of surrounding lakes, the dramatic green hills of the El Yunque rain forest and, in some cases, the ocean. Each boasts an infinity pool, outdoor Jacuzzis and a three-car garage. Seven have sold thus far.

And while golf is a big selling point here, there are other leisure pursuits, too: Take out a kayak or canoe from the boathouse, or just relax on the nearly 2 uninterrupted miles of beach. Residents get discounts at the adjacent 139-room hotel, which features a Remede spa and a Latin and Caribbean-influenced menu at the Jean-Georges Vongerichten restaurant, Fern. Still to come: Bahia Village, with shops, a beach club and restaurants.

Location

As mentioned above, the Residences are just 25 miles from San Juan, where you’ll find an airport, among other things. Non-stop flights to San Juan are readily available from more than twenty airports in the US, and most flights are less than three hours. The resort and residences sit directly on Bahia Beach, which features the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. As Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States, no passport is required to visit. San Juan marries old and new seamlessly, with bustling streets full of quaint cafes and five-star restaurants, as well as fine art galleries and museums. The activities of the city (should you dare to leave the beach behind) are endless.
