Location
Two thirds of St. John is a U.S. National Park, and here you see what the world is like when nature takes care of itself. Friends of the Virgin Islands National Park volunteers staff an information kiosk here. Spend day after day on beach after beach, each with its own panoramic view. Let a friendly mongoose lead you along a woodland trail.
Many of them end on a plateaux high in the sky, offering panoramic views of white beaches, emerald cays, and turquoise waters. The island’s long standing, enviable international reputation is not solely based on the pristine beaches, warm weather, and crystal-clear waters – St John is also the most culturally diverse, ethnically rich, and artistically vibrant society in the tropics. The island’s biggest asset is its sun-kissed people. The residents are island-spiced, friendly and quick to smile. Contemporary Virgin Islanders are literally from everywhere. St John is as diverse as the peaceful Arawak and fierce Carib Indians—and as culturally rich as the peoples of Africa, England, Holland, Denmark, Spain, France, India and the United States.
