Hermitage Bay – Isolation and Luxury on Antigua

The island of Antigua is home to some of the most exclusive, most luxurious of all Caribbean villa’s resorts, but few can compare to the magnificence of the lavish luxuries provided at Hermitage Bay Resort.

When it comes to Caribbean villas, Hermitage Bay is a resort with a difference, featuring that rare blend of tropical beauty and English-colonial style that is few and far between these days. An exclusive resort, Hermitage Bay encompasses just 25 isolated cottages that provide a level of privacy that is truly unique in this day and age.

Tucked into the natural landscape covering some ten acres, Hermitage Bay provides as serene a setting as it’s possible to get with Caribbean rentals – the scenery here is dominated by lush green tropical forests that kiss the shore of the crystal-clear Caribbean Sea. The eight beach front cottages offer sensation views of the ocean, while the others – set back slightly in the forest, are just perfect for lovers wishing to remain out of plain sight in their own perfect tropical paradise.

While the beach front cottages are more desirable, the hillside cottage Caribbean rentals offer more privacy and are far more spacious – meaning they are ideal for that Antiguan honeymoon, or for families. Even so, each cottage at this fantastic resort features all the latest mod-cons and essentials – with king-sized bed, DVD and Flat Screen TV, wireless internet connection, iPod docking, an outdoor sitting area and everything else that is needed to make a stay on Antigua as pleasant as can be.

Despite the privacy on offer, the service at Hermitage Resort Caribbean villas is second to none, with each room assigned a personal porter to accommodate the guests’ every need and desire, just as is expected from a five-star luxury resort. The room porter will introduce himself to guests as they are shown to their cottage for the first time, and following that he will always be waiting – discreetly, out of the way – ready to provide any services needed.

The only downside to Hermitage Bay Caribbean rentals is the amount of mosquitoes buzzing around at night time. Being an isolated place, with so much nature around, creepy crawlies are unavoidable, but a little mosquito repellant and covering up in the evening will see that this inconvenience is significantly decreased.

The bay itself is astonishingly beautiful – great for swimming, while the water sports staff ensure that it’s even better for those guests who want to try out surfing, jet skiing or any other daredevil stunts at their whim. Sun beds and parasols are plentiful, and there is always a member of staff on hand to keep guests topped up with refreshments.

Hermitage Bay is one of Antigua’s high-end Caribbean villas, a place to relax and live the good life like nowhere else. Few places offer so much isolation, such tranquility, and fulfill every single desire.

Location

The hotel condominium is adjacent to the Yacht Club Marina at Falmouth Harbour and within walking distance of the world’s only surviving Georgian dockyard at English Harbour.  Together, these two internationally renowned marinas are visited by some of the finest yachts in the world; and are also home to three of Antigua’s most popular events and great attractions: Antigua Sailing Week, held at the end of April through to May; Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta in April; and the Antigua Classic Yacht Meeting in December. Each event attracts thousands of visitors to the area each year. Falmouth Harbour in particular was built to cater specifically to the mega-yachts, with dockage for vessels up to 330’ with a draft of up to 20’ both stern-to and alongside.

The harbour lies close to the eastern end of the Sherkley Mountains, a range of hills skirting Antigua’s south coast. Monk’s Hill, the easternmost peak in the range, lies immediately to the north of the harbour.

English Harbour, Antigua’s graceful and evocative historic district, is focused on the fifteen square miles of Nelson’s Dockyard National Park. Developed as a base for the British Navy in the great age of sail, the harbour served as the headquarters of the fleet of the Leeward Islands during the turbulent years of the late 18th century. Today Nelson’s Dockyard has been completely restored, and it is now the only Georgian dockyard in the world.

Further above English Harbour, at Shirley Heights, are the partially-restored fortifications of the harbour’s colonial observation post; the view from Shirley Heights extends out over the harbour and far across the Caribbean to Montserrat and Guadeloupe. On Sundays the vista is enhanced by barbeque and live music at the bar there (Steel Band music from 3-6 pm & reggae from 6-9). Shirley Heights can be reached via Lookout Trail, a nature walk that rises from the harbour through a forest of trees.

Ideally situated at Falmouth Harbour, South Point offers numerous entertainment options and is within walking distance of some of Antigua’s most popular bars and restaurants. Coffee houses, ice cream parlors, shopping centers and sports facilities are also nearby, each adding to the dynamic atmosphere of this high profile community.  The carefree, laid-back lifestyle of vacationers, yacht owners, and expatriate residents is perfectly complemented by the seasonal buzz of activity that surrounds the area, drawing visitors from around the world to the various competitions, sailing regattas, and festive parties held each year.
